Dive into DC KIDS COUNT Data With Us

Our city’s prosperity rests on the shoulders of our children. They are the next generation teachers, parents and civic leaders. If they don’t succeed,  we all have a dimmer future.

We like to encourage our children by telling them that they can be anything they aspire to be. Unfortunately, the success of far too many children in DC seems predetermined by their ZIP codes, instead of their gifts and abilities.

Some DC neighborhoods are filled with opportunities that enrich children’s lives. Too many DC neighborhoods, however, are characterized by concentrated poverty, which brings with it a host of challenges for children and their families, including failing schools, high crime and little or no access to healthy food, libraries and parks and recreation centers.

As we enter our 20th year working to invest in the lives of DC children, we invite you to join us for the launch of the first ever online interactive DC KIDS COUNT tools and maps. Witness firsthand how we are using data to help identify where we are succeeding and where and why we are failing our children.

Our luncheon, on October 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., will serve as the official launch of our inaugural DC KIDS COUNT interactive data book and highlight the critical role neighborhoods play in the lives of DC’s children.

We will also honor this year’s recipient of the annual Diane Bernstein Children’s Champion Award: Dr. Denice Cora-Bramble from Children’s National Medical Center. Watch for future blog posts on her incredible work!
