Piecing Together: Completing the Early Childhood System Puzzle in the District
A note from acting executive director Shana Bartley:
I am excited to share Piecing Together: Completing the Early Childhood System Puzzle in the District with you. Building on conversations from across the early childhood landscape, this new white paper highlights key infrastructure pieces needed to build, sustain, and strengthen a strong early childhood system that supports families with young children from birth through age 5.
In recent months, we’ve seen increased attention on the early childhood field with a number of bills from the DC Council and proposals and efforts from the Bowser administration. This week, the Council of the District of Columbia’s Committees on Education, Finance & Revenue, and Health will hold a public hearing on two important pieces of legislation seeking to transform the early childhood landscape and develop a stronger system of care for infants and toddlers. We feel this presents an opportunity to be bold and intentional about crafting a system that works to meet the varying needs of families across the District.
We hope this paper encourages policymakers, providers and teachers, agency leaders, community members and our fellow advocates to come together and ensure that our youngest residents have the resources and supports needed to reach their full potential.
Our children deserve our best,
