1 Day left until DC Action’s Fall Soirée
Tomorrow is our Fall Soirée and I have been dying to reveal a few of the surprises we have in store for our guests. We already shared our top 10 reasons why you should join us. I kept telling DC Action staff that one of the top 10 reasons to join us is to mingle with me. But for some reason it didn’t make it onto the list!
Have you heard of our DC KIDS COUNT data tools, which highlight neighborhood-by-neighborhood indicators of child well-being? Come meet some of our #dataheroes who made our vision into a reality! They are true visionaries of open data!
I personally love silent auctions – shopping in which my money is sure to go towards a great cause. Sign me up! I personally hope to win the two-dozen cupcakes provided by Sprinkles! Absolutely nothing can get in between yummy cupcakes and my kids!
What I am most looking forward to is seeing a room full of people who are investing in the future of DC children. Just last week, critical food assistance programs for children were cut. This week, we helped release a KIDS COUNT report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation that shows 26,000 DC Children, ages birth to eight (42 percent), live in low-income households. This is the state of affairs for DC Children. We can do better!
As we kick-start the season of giving we are launching our Capital Campaign. I can’t tell you how critically important it is that DC Action receives your support this year as we arm ourselves for a very challenging budget season ahead with tremendous goals to support DC children. I am truly humbled that 100 of our closest Friends of DC Action for Children will be joining us tomorrow evening as Children’s Champions who will amplify the voices of all DC children and families.
